Baku Boycott? Are the prices to high for small events

As the prices continue to increase there were a noticeable number of companies not participating at this years AITF exhibition. The Azerbaijan travel market is small and specific but there would certainly be opportunities if the organisers did not insist on such high pricing for this small event.

Held in the not so grand hall of the Sports Palace the AITF 2004 was only able to record 33 stands this year.

Whilst there were national stands from Egypt, Ukraine and Thailand only Austria was able to make a good presentation. However with the immense difficulties for visas this impressive turnout of Austrian delegates should well be questioning the wisdom of participation.

Whilst no reliable statistics are available on out going tourism from Azerbaijan specialists have acknowledged the potential. With more International airline companies now considering Baku opportunities will exist as the economy improves.

It is a great shame that over-inflated prices and claims are made for this very mediocre event. The market needs International support but the organisers should consider their pricing strategy if this market has any chances for International participants.
